Responsibilities

Under the direction of the President and CEO, the Chief Wellness & Equity Officer (CWEO) provides vision and leadership to implement University Hospital’s strategy to improve health outcomes in our patient service area, especially across vulnerable populations, and drives strategic partnerships with providers and community organizations in furtherance of wellness and population health goals.  The Chief Wellness & Equity Officer will also be responsible for creating programs and plans that increase the wellbeing of employees in their work environments through initiatives that demonstrate University Hospital’s commitment to equity and valuing diversity and inclusion for all staff, physicians, patients, families, and visitors.  Provides leadership for the monitoring of wellbeing and access to wellness services beyond the traditional health care system, such as social and community services.  Works collaboratively with the hospital’s senior leadership team to meet the hospital’s goals of inclusion, equity, and diversity by fostering a community in which individuals from all racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, national, etc. backgrounds are welcome; and where people of all gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, religion, age, ability, etc. can flourish.

Qualifications

Doctoral Degree in Health or Health related field preferred, Master’s Degree in Health-related field or Business Administration required.  Minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience required, demonstrating strong operational expertise in the healthcare or public health setting and progressive levels of responsibility.  Highly developed communication skills and ability to work with a wide range of professionals including government constituents, community members and representatives, clinical, technical, and professional staff required.  Must understand and have experience working with healthcare providers and community-based organizations.  Experience working in a matrixed environment convening stakeholders required. Prior C-Suite level leadership experience preferred. Proven success in development and implementation of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Patient/Human Experience initiatives, with demonstrated knowledge of social justice linked public health advocacy preferred.   Must have the ability to coach, mentor, educate and inspire.
