The primary purpose of the Financial Coordinator position is to provide assessment and coordination of all fiscal aspects of patients served by Ambulatory Care Services and the Cancer Center Team. Ensures that pertinent and accurate insurance information is obtained from the patient and subsequently updated in the hospital’s computer system for billing purposes. The Financial Coordinator is a patient advocate whose responsibilities are to guide assigned patients through the process of obtaining financial coverage for services (Medicaid, disability, charity care, etc.) and obtaining authorizations/approvals for scheduled visits, procedures and surgeries. Provides patients with information pertaining to financial responsibility and provides basic education and/or referral to various insurance plans and programs.
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field plus at least one (1) year (three (3) years preferred) of progressively more responsible experience as a financial coordinator required. Applicants lacking the degree may substitute five (5) years of direct full-time experience in financial clearance for patients, including extensive work with various types of payers. Knowledge of medical terminology is essential. Possess a working knowledge of local area Networks of PC databases. Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word and Excel. The candidate must have excellent verbal and written skills, demonstrated ability for independent work and possess the ability to meet short deadlines. Spanish speaking preferable.
