Responsibilities

The primary purpose of the Senior Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic position is to work independently in performing a variety of the more complex and specialized mechanical work involved in the maintenance and repair of the motor vehicles and equipment. Works with various machine and hand tools common to the trade in all weather conditions, in concert with other EMS mechanics and as a member of the automotive service team under the direction of the Fleet Supervisor. Evaluates and confirms services performed by outside vendors.

Qualifications

The Senior Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic must have at least four (4) years of progressively more responsible experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of varied types of automotive and motorized equipment. Demonstrated ability for complex automotive mechanical repairs is required. Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of emergency vehicles is preferred. Must have two (2) years of driving experience with a good driving record. ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in at least one (1) category is required or must be obtained within one (1) year of date of hire to maintain employment. Certifications in several categories are preferred. Valid Driver’s License with NJ driving privileges. Valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B with Passenger Endorsement or obtain same within one (1) year of date of hire to maintain employment.

 

Credential required: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in at least one (1) category is required or must be obtained within one (1) year of date of hire to maintain employment Certifications in several categories are preferred. Valid Driver’s license with NJ driving privileges. Driver’s license must be in accordance with the DOT/MVC regulations for the type/size/weight of the vehicle(s) as assigned. Valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with Passenger Endorsement required or obtain same within one (1) year date of hire to maintain employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The Senior Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic must be in excellent physical condition and will, on a routine and daily basis, be required to see colors, hear voice, phone, and radio communications, read, speak and communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, smell, sit, stand, walk, lift, operate a motor vehicle, and operate computer, wireless, and other electronic equipment. The Senior Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic will, on a routine and daily basis, reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, handle or feel. Good manual dexterity and intermittent moderate to heavy physical exertion are required when performing job activities. The Senior Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. frequently and up to 100 lbs. occasionally.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The Senior Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic must be able to work in all weather and environmental conditions, including varying or extreme temperatures, and lift and move tools, equipment, and parts in all circumstances. The Senior Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic will be intermittently exposed to moderate or greater noise (examples: shop tools, equipment). In certain situations, the Senior Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic may be required to kneel, crawl, climb or jump.
