The primary purpose of the Advanced Practice Nurse position is to improve patient care and systems practice on the Trauma service. The Trauma APN provides clinical patient care to Trauma patients in collaboration with Trauma Physicians, the Trauma Team and with all other health care disciplines. Utilizes advanced practice nursing expertise to provide patient care services, staff orientation, consultation, and evaluation as well as education for patients, families, and health care team members. Works collaboratively with physicians and nursing leadership to identify' patient care and staff development needs. Maintains a clinical tract faculty appointment and serves as a preceptor for students. Participates in staff development programs, patient/family education programs, performance improvement, research and education programs related to trauma. Measurement criteria for all performance standards are observed by the Director, Division of Trauma, and the Trauma Program Manager, unless otherwise indicated.
Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Master’s Degree required. Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience required with two (2) years of surgical intensive care or trauma RN experience preferred. Care of patients on research protocols and an understanding of clinical research principles is highly desirable. Computer literacy, organizational skills, excellent communication skills, interpersonal and group skills and compassion are required. BLS, ACLS certification required. ATLS certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
