The primary purpose of the Surgical Staff Nurse position is to administer total patient care based on individualized needs of assigned patients and families in accordance with professional nursing standards. The Staff Nurse will utilize knowledge and demonstrate competency in Otolaryngology, Oral Maxillofacial, and Urological procedures. Expected behaviors include assessment, planning, implementation of nursing interventions and evaluation of the physical, psychological, and spiritual needs of the patient pre-procedural, procedural and post-procedural phases of care. The Staff Nurse demonstrates knowledge of SGNA’s Guidelines for Nursing Care of the patient receiving General Anesthesia in the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Practice, SGNA’s Standards for Infection Control and Reprocessing of Urological scopes. The Staff Nurse is responsible for patient education and providing care management/outcome management in accordance with professional nursing standards to pediatric and adult patients who are under the care of the Surgical Services team. The role of the RN includes practice/office support. Demonstrates team approaches at all times and demonstrate flexibility by rotation between Surgical Services as required. Shows a working knowledge of UH, TJC, & DOH regulations. The Staff Nurse participates in evidence-based nursing, departmental related QA and PI endeavors and meets hospital continuing education and certification requirements.
RN/AAS degree required from an accredited School or approved Nursing accredited program. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, BSN preferred. Current BLS, ACLS for healthcare professionals and IV/Venous Access Device Certification required. PALS certification preferred. Two years’ experience with General Anesthesia, Pre-Post Recovery Nursing and Urological procedures required. Essential requirements also include working predetermined flexible hours.
