The primary purpose of the Biomedical Equipment Technician I position is to work in all areas of the hospital, servicing all types of medical equipment. Reads circuit diagrams and troubleshoots complex electronic devices. Works as part of a team and is periodically “on call” for emergency calls. Identifies and orders repair parts as needed and keeps detailed notes and documentation on service performed. Explains the application use of equipment to other staff. Independently performs complete preventive maintenance and calibration to manufacturers’ specifications on at least four major categories of medical equipment. A measurement criterion is observed by a supervisor unless otherwise indicated.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and one (1) years of experience, or Associate’s Degree in Biomedical, Electrical or Clinical Technology plus two (2) years of relevant experience required. The 39-week Military Biomedical Equipment Repair School plus one (1) year of technical school may be considered equivalent to an Associate Degree. In-depth IT knowledge on configuration capsules on medical Device integrations strongly preferred. Working knowledge of HL7, DICOM, TCIP and communications protocols. Understanding of computer and network security must have knowledge of Medical Equipment device Integration to EPIC and supporting the end users. Additional related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
