Responsibilities

The primary purpose of the Senior Biomedical Technician position is to work in all areas of the hospital, having the ability and experience to service all medical equipment commonly used for patient diagnostics and treatment.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical, Electrical or Clinical Engineering plus three (3) year’s relevant experience or an Associate’s Degree plus five (5) years relevant biomedical equipment experience is required. The 39-week Military Biomedical Equipment Repair School plus one (1) additional year of relevant technical school may be considered equivalent to the Associate’s Degree. A Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certificate is an asset. In-depth IT knowledge on configuration capsules on medical Device integrations strongly preferred. Working knowledge of HL7, DICOM, TCIP and communications protocols. Understanding of computer and network security. Additional related biomedical equipment experience may be substituted for the education requirements on a year-for-year basis.


The job of medical equipment service requires the individual to be physically able to work in all areas of the hospital and be able to access equipment in confined areas as needed to perform the repairs.

This includes moving and lifting common items of medical equipment such as monitors, IV pumps and other movable items. To ensure safety for themselves and others, the technician must have an unimpaired ability to read color-coded diagrams and instructions as well as see and hear equipment warning alarms of various colors and frequencies.
The ability to wear protective equipment such as surgical and N95 masks is necessary since the technician may be called upon to repair equipment in surgical suites and patient isolation units.
