The primary purpose of the Manager Sterile Processing position is to provide 24/7 leadership and management of sterile processing operations for University Hospital. Oversees the processing and sterilization of medical devices, supplies and equipment utilized in patient care in accordance with regulatory requirements. Supervises staff and manages development and technical training programs, new employee orientation and continuing education/proficiency activities. Collaborates with Perioperative Services administration for new instrument and equipment purchases. Provides data on quality performance measures to Director Perioperative Business Services. Interfaces regularly with Perioperative leadership, and staff nurses, physicians, Supply Chain Management, Hospital Support Management and Senior Hospital Leadership as needed to improve processes and workflow related to sterile processing operations. Provides leadership to personnel who are responsible for sterilization of instruments for all age ranges inclusive of neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Bachelor’s Degree in the biological sciences, business administration, management or a related field required, plus three (3) years of Central Sterile Processing experience, at least one (1) of which shall have been in a supervisory/management capacity. Experience in Case cart delivery systems, Procedure Based delivery systems, and automated instrument tracking systems required. Completion of an approved Central Service Technology course and National/International SPD Certification on the management level required, and must be maintained during employment. Strong background in instrumentation and surgical services (inpatient and outpatient procedures) required. Familiarity with AAMI, AORN, OSHA, FDA, CDC and all federal and state regulatory standards required. Must possess working knowledge of computers and software applications for database management, word processing, and spreadsheets. Demonstrated knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment is preferred. Additional related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
