The primary purpose of the Blood Bank Technologist position is to assume responsibility for maintaining blood/blood product inventory, daily temperature quality control of designated refrigerators, thawing fresh frozen plasma,
aliquoting blood for pediatric patients, logging in blood/blood products, issuing blood/blood products, performing clerical duties, answering phones and communicating needs to staff under the direction of the Chief technologist.

❖ Processes specimens for analysis and storage according to established procedures.

❖ Organizes pending work appropriately and holds for follow-up in accordance with section policy.
❖ Maintains order and cleanliness of assigned area and equipment as observed by Supervisor.
❖ Follows protocol for running controls and accepting/verifying results of noncompliance
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent required. ASCP certification or equivalent preferred. Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the Bachelor’s Degree requirement on a year for year basis.
