Responsibilities

The primary purpose of the Advanced Nurse Practice (APN) position is to be a skilled health care provider who has a written collaborative practice agreement with the Physicians in the Orthopaedic Clinic and is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. The APN collaborates with the Practice Managers and Physicians regarding Standards of Care for the Orthopaedic Practice and mentors/supervises staff and students regarding management of orthopaedic patients through evidence based practice. Through the performance of comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis and the prescribing of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments, the APN addresses the behavioral aspects of illness and disease. APN practice promotes wellness through conducting research, providing education and impacting public policy and works autonomously as well as in orthopaedic teams as a resource and consultant. The APN is self-directed and purposeful in seeking the necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency. The SAPN:
* Exemplifies patient/centered care principles in interaction with staff, patients and hospital personnel.
* Convenes frequently with the orthopaedic team to discuss expectations, patient management and other service related functions and needs.
* Displays professionalism through affording the appropriate time needed to complete duties associated with the position.

Qualifications

A current Registered/Professional Nurse license and registration in the State of New Jersey is required. Completion of an educational program which is designed and conducted to prepare graduates to practice as an NP/APN with a master’s degree in nursing and eligible for certification by a national certifying body required. Demonstration of publication in peer reviewed journals with designation as a Principal Investigator in an area of specialization highly desirable. Experience in orthpaedic practice preferred. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and creative problem solving are essential. Solid computer skills essential. A minimum of two (2) years’ experience of clinical nursing experience and current BLS certification are required. Participation in pertinent professional and/or specialty organizations preferred.
