The primary purpose of the Cytotechnologist position is to provide the Supervisor Cytopathology, cytopathologists, and physicians with accurate and reliable evaluations of cytologic samples. Cytotechnologist assumes independent, meticulous, microscope work and must be comfortable with a high degree of responsibility and work well under pressure. Communicates correct clinical relevant information according to the standardized terminology. Adheres to policies and procedures determined by the department as well as CLIA regulations and supervisory observation.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Cytopathology or one of the biological sciences. Certification as a registered Cytotechnologist (CT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Successfully passes CLIA-mandated yearly Proficiency Test for Gynecologic Cytology. Capacity to sit, concentrate and perform microscopy for 80% of each day. Cytotechnologist must demonstrate strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
