Overview

About the Role

The main responsibility of the Data Uniformity Specialist is to identify, investigate, and correct issues related to medical record numbers, electronic and paper health records, and University Hospital’s information system databases. This role ensures the accuracy and consistency of the Master Patient Index (MPI) and electronic medical record data, helping to protect the integrity of patient information and support overall patient safety.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Conducts comprehensive review, analysis, and resolution of discrepancies involving:

    • Medical record numbers

    • Electronic health records (EHR)

    • Paper-based health records

    • University Hospital’s information system databases

  • Executes critical functions to maintain the accuracy and integrity of:

    • The Master Patient Index (MPI)

    • Electronic medical record (EMR) data

  • Ensures the consistency and reliability of patient information to:

    • Uphold the integrity of medical records

    • Enhance overall patient safety

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management required

  • National certification required (RHIA or RHIT)

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a Health Information Management (HIM) department or in the administrative/business area of healthcare

  • Acute care hospital experience preferred

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills

  • Demonstrates professionalism, tact, and diplomacy when interacting with:

    • Hospital departments

    • Medical staff

    • External organizations

  • Exhibits:

    • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities

    • High attention to detail

  • Proficient in PC applications, including:

    • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

    • Adobe Acrobat

  • Equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training may be considered in place of the degree requirement

Compensation (NJ Job Transparency Law)

The expected salary range for this position is ($66,943.00 - $95,892.00) per year, in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
