Overview

The primary purpose of the Dental Assistant position is to provide direct patient care, performs simple (nursing dental) procedures, performs in a technical capacity providing support to the professional staff in the evaluation and treatment of patients, and contributes to the overall orderliness and cleanliness of the unit under the direction and supervision of a Staff Nurse. Provides chair side assistance to doctors performing all dental procedures under local. Exercises competency in all procedures within the scope of practice, as appropriate to all ages of patients served from neonatal to the end of life.

Qualifications

  • High school or equivalent certification program required. Ability to read, write speak, understand, and communicate in English. Sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. Completion of an accredited Dental Assisting Program. Certification as a Dental Assistant and an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant required. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Anesthesia Assistant preferred.
  • Two (2) years of related experience is preferred. Applicants must be able to take temperatures, pulse, blood pressures, and other simple procedures where indicated.
  • Certification in CPR. Must be registered with the Board of Dentistry to Practice in New Jersey as a Registered Dental Assistant. Must possess a valid Dental Radiologic Technology License issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
  • Credential required: Certification in Dental Assisting, NJ Dental Radiologic Technology License, BLS (CPR)
