Responsibilities

The Ethics and Compliance Manager serves as a resource to assist the Office of Ethics and Compliance regarding privacy, compliance and ethics issues and responsibilities. Assists on activities related to development, implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to University Hospital’s policies and procedures covering privacy and accessto protected health information (PHI) in compliance with federal and state laws and health system privacy practices. Ensures that UH follows state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to Corporate Compliance and HIPAA Privacy. Assists with periodic risk assessments and ongoing monitoring of key elements of the compliance, privacy, and ethics programs, including privacy notice, consent, authorization, business partner agreements/practice, and minimum necessary information and disclosure. Also oversees compliance with State Ethics Program requirements and provides support and assistance regarding compliance program operations and initiatives. The candidate will also oversee the investigations process, compliance and privacy education and assist with other special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and six (6) or more years of relevant healthcare experience required, with a preference for healthcare compliance and privacy experience.
  • Knowledge of current healthcare laws and regulations required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Ability to prepare technical and non‐technical reports and conduct investigations, review documents, and develop cases is required.
  • Ability to create and manage work plans with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing sufficiently to express thoughts and ideas to a variety of people.
  • Demonstrated understanding of public, federal, state, local, and third-party regulatory and governance processes.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment required.
  • Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) certification from the Health Care Compliance Association, or a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, or willing to attain within one year of hire required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge preferred of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment.
