The primary purpose of the Senior Dental Assistant position is to provide administrative and clinical support for the clinic. Mentors and precepts Dental Assistants. Orders and maintains the clinics supplies. Assists doctors/nurses with patient plan of care. Provides direct patient care, performs simple (nursing dental) procedures, performs in a technical capacity providing support to the professional staff in the evaluation and treatment of patients, and contributes to the overall orderliness and cleanliness of the unit. Provides chair side assistance to doctors performing all dental procedures under local anesthesia. Exercise’s competency in all procedures within the scope of practice, as appropriate to all ages of patients served from neonatal to the end of life.
High school or equivalent certification program required. Completion of an accredited Dental Assisting Program.
Certification as a Dental Assistant, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Anesthesia Assistant and an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant. Four (4) years of related experience is required. Certification in CPR.
Applicants must be able to take temperatures, pulse, blood pressures, and other simple procedures where indicated.
Must be registered with the Board of Dentistry to Practice in New Jersey as a Registered Dental Assistant.
Must possess a valid Dental Radiologic Technology License issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
Ability to read, write speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.
Credential required: Certification in Dental Assisting, NJ Dental Radiologic Technology License, BLS (CPR)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires standing 2/3 of the time, walking 2/3 of the time, sitting 1/3 of the time, use of hands to finger, handle, or feel over 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Position requires lifting up to 25 lbs. up to 2/3 of the time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Exposure to blood borne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment.
