Overview

The primary purpose of the Vascular Technologist position is to perform noninvasive vascular testing on inpatients and outpatients, ensure appropriate and timely documentation of studies performed and maintain laboratory space, supplies, and equipment. This position contributes to an effective performance improvement program for the Vascular Laboratory that is consistent with the overall University Hospital plan and with Intersocietal Committee for Accreditation of Vascular Laboratory (IAC) standards. Enhances knowledge to ensure practices are consistent with "state of the art" vascular laboratory procedures.

Responsibilities

Performs all non-invasive vascular testing for inpatients and outpatients.

Maintains appropriate documentation of studies that are performed in the vascular laboratory.

Maintains the day-to-day activities of the vascular lab in accordance with university hospital policies and procedures.

Maintains the laboratory space, supplies, and equipment to ensure labor efficiency and productivity.

Participates in vascular laboratory quality assurance program.

  • Performs all tests in accordance with departmental and Intersocietal Committee for Accreditation of Vascular Laboratory (IAC) standards.
  • Reviews test results with reading physicians in a timely manner.
  • Actively participates in Vascular Lab quality assurance meetings in reviewing test quality.

 

Qualifications

Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) approved ultrasound school or vascular technology program is required. Registered Vascular Technician (RVT) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) required. Annual Respirator Fit Testing required.
Credential required: Ultrasound School or Vascular Technology Program, Registered Vascular Technician (RVT) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS); BLS
Primary source verification: CRI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International or ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers); American Heart Association; University Hospital's designated Background Check Company
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Position requires transporting vascular portable equipment and performing procedures at the patient’s bedside when the patient is not safely able to come to the lab. Must be able to walk, stand, sit, and use hands and fingers freely 2/3 of the time. Must be able to communicate verbally and listen attentively. Must have a clear vision, must be able to view without difficulty close and distance vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise (examples: clinical department with computers and printers, phones, light to moderate traffic). Moderate direct patient contact within the department and on patient units while performing portable studies.
