Overview

About the Role

The primary purpose of the Pharmacy Technician position is to perform a variety of technical and clerical duties for the hospital-wide unit dose medication distribution system and intravenous admixture program. Responsible to maintain confidential reports, enter and retrieve data utilizing the computer system, prepare intravenous medication including, but not limited to, chemotherapy, and hyper-alimentations, fill automated medication dispensing system with unit dose medications, procure, and fill requests for pharmaceutical supplies and deliver supplies. Responsible for assisting the Senior Buyer in ordering, managing, and maintaining inventory.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do  

  • Selects the proper medication and/or accessory from stock necessary to match label generated and/or cart fill list. Labels and prepares product in accordance with Pharmacy Practice standards and Hospital Policies and Procedures and delivers all checked medications including, but not limited to, controlled substances, IV’s, chemotherapy, leeches, floor stock, etc. to respective area.
  • With the use of an automated dispensing system printout, refills automated dispensing system Med Stations to prescribed par levels as per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and restocks individual filling stations and work areas, including all satellites while contributing to the maintenance of a fixed, minimal level of pharmacy inventory. Responsible for inventory control/purchasing activity as required to maintain departmental inventory at appropriate levels.
  • Compounds sterile products, including intravenous admixtures, total parenteral nutrition solutions, chemotherapy, and miscellaneous products in accordance with proper aseptic technique, USP <797>and <800>guidelines and the policies and procedures set by the pharmacy department.
  • Responsible for the daily coordination of the compounding and distribution of non-sterile products, adhering to proper technique and procedures as established in USP <795>guidelines, Pharmacy policies and procedures and patient care needs.
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties and other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • A High School Diploma or GED certificate preferred. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English required.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the Exam for Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) required or must be obtained within one (1) year of date of hire.
  • Must be a Registered Pharmacy Technician with the New Jersey State Board of Pharmacy

Compensation

The expected salary range for this position is $ 21.88 $ 23.06 per hour, in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
