About the Role

University Hospital is seeking a dedicated and hands-on Assistant Manager for Environmental Services to support the operational excellence of our EVS department. In this key leadership role, you will work closely with the Director of Environmental Services to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This position plays a critical role in driving high standards of cleanliness, infection control, and service delivery across the hospital, while supporting a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

 

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Assists the Director of Environmental Services in maintaining the necessary resources for departmental operations, including providing recommendations on appropriate staffing levels, products, and equipment.
  • Supports the development, implementation, and refinement of departmental policies and procedures in collaboration with the Director.
  • In coordination with University Hospital Human Resources, it manages all HR-related functions such as interviewing, hiring, staff development, performance evaluations, and corrective actions in accordance with union contracts.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Manager of Environmental Services (Training) to ensure staff training and development meet OSHA and other regulatory requirements. Co-develops and implements onboarding and ongoing education programs for new hires.
  • Establishes and oversees work schedules, assignments, and staffing to ensure adequate service coverage. Monitors and manages employee timekeeping and ensures timely submission to Payroll.
  • Assists with quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives, including training, audits, inspections, and rounding, and provides recommendations for improvement as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • Associate’s degree required, plus four (4) years of experience in environmental services, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting required, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience required.
  • Must have excellent organizational, customer service, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to understand and put into action basic infection control procedures. Ability to handle and mix chemicals safely and properly.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote a work environment that fosters positive energy, creativity, and teamwork among colleagues across all functional areas.
  • This is a second or third shift position.
  • Must be able to work every other weekend and holidays. Additional related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

Compensation (NJ Job Transparency Law)

The expected salary range for this position is Min $ 65,222.00 –  Mid $81, 531.00 – Max $ 97,834.00per year, in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
