About the Role

The primary purpose of the Business Manager position is to provide daytoday administrative leadership and business management of assigned areas through skillful directing, coaching, support, and delegation to staff in the provision of clinically safe, fiscally sound, compassionate care and services.    Oversees clinical and nonclinical personnel. Assures compliance with financial, quality, UH compliance, UH Policy and Procedures, and leads towards achievement of organizational and regulatory goals.  Responsible for revenue cycle.  Visionary and innovative leader in teamwork, change management and performance improvement.  Ability to deliver under pressure and challenge the status quo in a matrix organization with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do  

Manages Ambulatory Care Services (ACS) Practice(s)’ daytoday operations, keeping executive management informed of trends and changes.

  • Demonstrates skill and creativity in problem solving. Identifies opportunities for improvement; actively seeks increased efficiencies.
  • Recruits, evaluates, and recommends personnel actions for all clinical and business staff.  
  • Develops and coaches staff to work as a team; establishes a collaborative relationship with providers, and all internal and external stakeholders.  
  • Ensures staff is provided with constructive feedback and recognition for accomplishments on an ongoing basis.
  • Responsive to staff and patient needs.  Responsible for staff adherence to established standards of care.
  • Leads the team in providing the “best care” in the “most economical” way while ensuring patient and staff safety.
  • Contributes to the practice growth and marketing efforts of ACS.  Actively promotes the organization to the community.

Responsible for all aspects of the budgeting process, and financial performance of the practice.

  • Prepares, evaluates, analyzes, and presents operational, volume and capital budgets related to assigned areas and monitors for variance.
  • Monitors spending and actively works to reduce costs.
  • Assures cost effectiveness of services (+/5%) and efficiency (productivity at least 90% of expected).
  • Responsible for forecasting, timely variance analysis and reporting.
  • Develops and implements monitoring systems for access, flow, registration, charges, collections, and denials; ensures reconciliation processes are followed.
  • Monitors Charge Master Description biannually in assigned areas and requests changes where indicated.
  • Prepares reports on practice activity; periodically reviews goals and performance and recommends changes.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • Either a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field and five (5) years of relevant professional experience in a health care or education environment or government agency required or a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration, Public Health, Administration and four (4) years of related professional experience required.  
  • Experience with hospital based, and faculty or physician practice organizations required.  
  • Familiarity with Title X guidelines and the grant application process a plus.  
  • At least two (2) years of experience shall have been at the supervisory level. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required and experience interacting with audiences of varied healthcare literacy.

Credential required:  

  • BS or BA

Additional Credential preferred:

  • MBA, MPH, MHA, MPA or MS.    CPA, Registered Nurse, Radiology/Ultrasound Technician, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist or Speechlanguage Pathologist (other licensed healthcare professionals may be considered)

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is VS/30S:: - $98,206.00 - $122,754.00 - $147,305.00 per year. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs.
