About the Role
The primary purpose of the Chief Flight Nurse position is to supervise the clinical product delivered by JEMSTAR flight team and the ground Specialty Care Transport team. This is facilitated through the collaborative development of clinical quality initiatives, the delivery of new and targeted remedial education programs, performing retrospective emergency medical record (EMR) audits and quality reviews of care delivered. The Chief flight Nurse also oversees new employee orientation, manages NJ DOH recertifications for paramedics and mobile intensive care nurses assigned to the JEMSTAR and Specialty Care Transport teams, tracks provider credentials, completes clinical and quality reports, and participates in hospital wide clinical service line meetings.
What You’ll Do
Delivers patient-centered care by creating a welcoming environment, communicating clearly, resolving concerns promptly, and exceeding service expectations.
Supports clinical quality initiatives by collaborating with EMS leadership and hospital teams to align practices and develop education based on quality trends.
Leads education and competency programs including annual assessments, ongoing training, remedial plans, and simulation-based evaluations for clinical staff.
Performs quality assurance audits and reviews patient care documentation to ensure compliance, identify near misses, and improve outcomes.
Facilitates onboarding and training by managing new employee orientation, overseeing field training programs, and evaluating performance during probation.
Maintains certifications and credentials by tracking and coordinating renewals, including NJ Department of Health and NREMT recertifications.
Prepares clinical and quality reports and ensures accurate, timely documentation for audits, regulatory requirements, and performance tracking.
Represents EMS teams in hospital initiatives by participating in clinical meetings and maintaining strong communication and documentation standards
What You’ll Bring
Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of New Jersey; BSN preferred.
Minimum 5 years of critical care nursing experience in an ICU or Emergency Department.
At least 2 years of clinical supervisory or educator experience.
Preferred: Experience in an emergency aeromedical helicopter program and 2+ years of EMS driving experience with a satisfactory driving record.
Must pass a medical evaluation and respirator fit test, wear an N95 mask per PEOSHA standards, and maintain FAA Class III flight physical status.
Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
Must possess and maintain active credentials with primary source verification, including:
NJ Registered Nurse licensure
Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification
Valid driver’s license meeting DOT/MVC regulations for assigned vehicle type/size/weight
AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or PEPP-A or EPNC
Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or BTLS/ITLS
Incident Command System (ICS) Level 200
National Incident Management System (NIMS) Awareness
National Response Plan – An Introduction
Certified Flight Nurse (CFRN) or NJ Flight Nurse (NJ FN) certification must be obtained before the end of the probationary period.
What We Offer
Compensation (NJ Job Transparency Law)
The expected hourly range for this position is $45.78- $68.69 per hour, in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
