Overview

About the Role

The primary purpose of the Physician Assistant-Surgical position is to assist in the direct care of gynecology patients while under the direct supervision of a licensed physician. Predominantly assists, manages and supports Gynecology staff. The Physician Assistant-Surgical will be dedicated to full service clinical support of gynecology staff including pre-operative, intra- operative and post-operative assistance for general gynecology and specialty services including urogynecology, reproductive choice (TOP) and reproductive endocrinology. The Physician Assistant-Surgical will provide assistance, management and support of gynecology staff in the inpatient service, emergency department and office setting for operative and non-operative activities.

 

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do   

  • Facilitates and assists in ensuring a seamless admission and discharge process.
  • Performs patient admission workups including physical examinations, obtaining and recording histories, obtaining consents, and assisting with surgical procedures as necessary.
  • Makes rounds and examines patients on a daily basis, under the direction of the Attending physicians, making all necessary chart entries, including the writing of pre/post procedure orders, transfer orders, progress notes and discharge summaries.
  • Provides patient/family education and counseling in conjunction with the healthcare team.
  • Performs other duties as required by supervising physician including blood drawing, IV placement wound care, incision and drainage of abscesses, first and second assisting in operating room, direct patient care in hospital and office.
  • Establishes and/or contributes to an effective performance improvement program for the gynecology patient that is consistent with the overall University Hospital Performance Improvement Plan.
  • May write appropriate medical orders for patients, following acceptable medical standards, and will assure that all orders are co-signed in compliance with New Jersey State 13:35-2B12 and Hospital Policy.
  • Performs other duties as required by the supervising physician in accordance with Statutes and regulations governing the practice of Physician Assistants promulgated by the New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety.

 

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science or a related field.
  • Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
  • Certification from the National Commission for Certification by Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • New Jersey Licensed from the State Board of Medical Examiners-Physician Advisory committee.
  • Prior experience in clinical medicine is preferred.

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is PS/37S - $123,639.00 - $149,999.00 - $179,342.00 per year. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs. The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
