Overview

About the Role

The primary purpose of the Radiologic Technologist Aide position is to provide patient/material transportation service and aide and assist the technical/nursing staff to improve patient throughput. These materials may include, but are not limited to specimens, oxygen tanks, packages, slips, supplies, medication orders, labs, mail, CT/ MRI supplies, and other items as needed. May utilize various equipment locks, etc. The Radiologic Technologist Aide will communicate/secure preventive maintenance on all transport equipment as required. Also assists the technical and Nursing staff to put patients on and off the table and other duties to facilitate and expedite the care of patients. The Radiology Tech Aide has the capacity to endure high pressure situations in a fast paced work- space, under time sensitive conditions, while remaining calm as a professional demeanor is demonstrated towards patients and their family.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do  

  • Provides patient transport services using stretchers, wheelchairs, geri-chairs, wheeled bed, gliders, or walking patient, completing routine transport within 15 minutes of receipt of calls as observed by Supervisor.
  • Reports to Radiology Department any delays within 5 – 10 minutes of assignment of patient transports and calls Supervisor at the completion of all return trips and reports back to staging for next assignment.
  • Checks patient identaband to ensure transport of correct patients 100% of the time, notes and reports immediately all discrepancies to charge nurse and to Transport Supervisor 100% of the time.
  • Transport to/from specialty areas, such as other Radiology areas, ER, LAB, Admitting, and Lobby. Adheres to routes and service scheduled 95% of times as observed by Supervisor.
  • Transport patients to and from Radiology, main lobby, clinical areas, ER, Admitting and other areas as assigned 100% of the time, as observed by supervisor.
  • Assists nursing and technical staff as requested in transferring patient to and from bed/ wheelchair or stretcher, etc. Responsible for the returning of all stretchers /wheelchairs, and specimen carts to designated areas during and after the shift.
  • Performs pick-up and delivery of other patient related materials and/or supplies in a timely manner to route or assigned tour scheduled.
  • Ensures that all pickups from central storage area are picked up and that all areas are stocked with adequate supplies.
  • Demonstrates competency in transporting patients using ancillary medical equipment such as oxygen tanks, IV pumps, etc.
  • Assists and directs patient and their families to safety during drills. i.e: fire and patient safety drills.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

Required:

  • Two (2) years of customer service experience preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand and/or communicate in English sufficiently to perform job duties.
  • Ability to communicate excellently and handle his/ her composure with a variety of patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time, push, pull, lift, and bend with hand and eye coordination in compliance with PM & R Physical Assessment.
  • Must be able to pass body mechanics physical assessment during probationary period. Valid CPR, and Phlebotomy certification required.
  • Must be able to change shifts to meet staffing needs and shift rotations with required advance notification.

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is XH/99H - $25.79 per hour. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs. The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
