Overview

About the Role

The primary purpose of the Financial Coordinator position is to provide assessment and coordination of all fiscal aspects of patients served by Ambulatory Care Services and the Cancer Center Team. Ensures that pertinent and accurate insurance information is obtained from the patient and subsequently updated in the hospital’s computer system for billing purposes. The Financial Coordinator is a patient advocate whose responsibilities are to guide assigned patients through the process of obtaining financial coverage for services (Medicaid, disability, charity care, etc.) and obtaining authorizations/approvals for scheduled
visits, procedures, and surgeries. Provides patients with information pertaining to financial responsibility and provides basic education and/or referral to various insurance plans and programs.

 

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Assesses and coordinates all financial aspects of patient care within Ambulatory Care Services and the Cancer Center Team.
  • Ensures accurate and up-to-date insurance information is collected and entered into the hospital’s billing system.
  • Acts as a patient advocate, guiding individuals through the process of securing financial coverage (e.g., Medicaid, disability, charity care).
  • Obtains necessary authorizations and approvals for scheduled visits, procedures, and surgeries.
  • Educates patients on their financial responsibilities and available insurance options.
  • Provides basic financial guidance or refers patients to appropriate insurance programs and resources.

 

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required, along with at least one (1) year of progressively responsible experience as a financial coordinator (three (3) years preferred).
  • Applicants without a degree may substitute five (5) years of full-time experience in financial clearance for patients, including extensive work with various types of payers.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
  • Familiarity with local area networks and PC databases required.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, and experience using database and reporting tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet short deadlines.
  • Spanish-speaking skills preferred.

Compensation (NJ Job Transparency Law)

The expected salary range for this position is $56,654 - $67,940 - $80,705 per year in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
