Overview

About the Role

The primary purpose of the Coordinator Data Systems position is to perform routine and specialized functions for the Divisions under the direction of the Administrative Director and/or designee. Supervises

and/or performs appropriate monitoring and modification of database and master files for the LIS (Laboratory Information Systems). Creates and upkeeps policies and procedures affecting database management and security. Performs general administrative supervision of division staff and Laboratory Information Systems functions.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Processes are patient centered; actively contributes to creating a friendly, welcoming, and safe environment for UH customers; drives collaboration with leadership, including physicians; organizes and monitors operations to accommodate and respond to patient needs, concerns, and complaints within 24–48 hours; continuously displays “can do” attitude; monitors and analyzes data on patient satisfaction and takes corrective actions; acts as a role model for Service Excellence; maintains professional composure; ensures respect for patient rights and uniqueness; and ensures customer service scores meet/exceed targets.

  • Supervises the daily functions of the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and computerized departmental systems, provides general problem diagnosis and support, supervises LIS staff, and holds in-services and documents training sessions for all Laboratory staff.

  • Serves as primary liaison between Laboratory management and IST; in consultation with Laboratory Leadership defines database and interface parameters; builds and modifies database parameters; ensures modifications are reflected in all systems; develops dry and wet testing plans; performs dry and wet testing; instructs users; manages connectivity; and oversees testing documentation.

  • Installs system, network, and application software; installs workstation hardware; performs hardware/software repairs; documents current system operations and policies in MCN and the shared drive; and maintains LIS compliance with CAP standards and CAP Checklist requirements.

  • Maintains communication with Chief Technologists/Supervisors/Medical Directors to improve system performance; oversees Laboratory informatics projects; participates in budget preparation and monitoring; evaluates system operations and recommends improvements; prepares specifications; and evaluates/recommends hardware, software, and support tools.

  • Defines user security and control procedures; develops database testing and conversion plans; develops and conducts training programs; assists University Hospital MIS with database/interface maintenance; develops project plans; prepares project schedules and workflows; prepares reports; serves as department resource for computer issues; develops/maintains documentation; reviews work for change control; reports on project progress; trains end users; ensures work meets departmental standards; and presents project completion.

  • Understands and adheres to University Hospital’s compliance standards; keeps abreast of all pertinent regulations, laws, and policies; ensures staff are trained and evaluated on compliance; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of progress experience supporting end user computing preferably in a hospital laboratory environment.
  • Must complete certifications on both EPIC Beaker Anatomic Pathology (AP) and EPIC Beaker Clinical Pathology (CP) within one year of hire.
  • Experience with laboratory Information Systems. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in medical technology preferred. ASCP or equivalent preferred. Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.

Compensation (NJ Job Transparency Law)

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is $108,862.00 - $129,082.00.
