About the Role
The primary purpose of the Histotechnologist position is to provide pathologists and physicians with accurate and reliable evaluations of Surgical Pathology tissue samples.
What You’ll Do
Service provided is patient centered; actively contributes to creating a friendly, welcoming, and safe environment for UH customers; communicates clearly to ensure understanding; responds to complaints and concerns by resolving issues immediately whenever possible; organizes work process to accommodate customer needs; meets or exceeds customer expectations for service; acts as a role model for Service Excellence; maintains professional composure; works effectively with team to ensure customer service scores meet/exceed targets; demonstrates respect for patient rights.
Receives and accessions surgical specimens to prepare for technical and diagnostic procedures and participates in on-call coverage monthly or as necessary for the processing of tissue specimens.
Processes all specimens using the Automated Tissue Processors, embeds processed tissue samples, cuts, mounts, stains, and labels slides, matches to corresponding requisition form and histology specimen logs, and performs special stains and immunostain.
Cuts and stains frozen sections as necessary and maintains daily and monthly slide, paraffin block, and stain totals and QC reports.
Stores and files all paraffin blocks and microscopic slides and maintains equipment and quality control; participates in Quality Assurance Programs and Regulatory readiness for the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Inspection.
Maintains inventory and reports supplies needed for ordering to the Chief Technologist and is responsible for proper disposal of chemical, sharps, and specimen waste as per University Hospital’s Waste Management policies and procedures.
Understands and adheres to University Hospital’s compliance standards; keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and University Hospital regulations, laws, and policies; performs other related duties as assigned.

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly range for this position is $34.39 - $49.11.
