Responsibilities

The primary purpose of the Director PCS Medical Surgical Services position is to practice as a change agent of University Hospital’s Management Team by continuously formatting and developing a patient/family centered care delivery system that is clinically safe, effective, financially productive, and responsive to expanding health care knowledge and reform. The Director is a positive role model, skilled communicator/facilitator and non-territorial team player with solid people influencing skills that introduces, implements, and sustains work processes designed to produce successful patient/family outcomes efficiently. She/he is skilled at interfacing with broad and diverse groups in multidisciplinary forums facilitated to improve innovative care delivery. She/he collaborates closely with the designated Physician Chief of the department to promote and ensure interdisciplinary collaboration and performance in achieving patient/family and organizational goals. The Director has extensive knowledge of the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Organization Standards, Joint Commission Sentinel Events and Action Plans, National Patient Safety Goals, Patient Bill of Rights, Department of Health Standards, Policy and Procedure and Patient/Family Centered Principles and emphasized patient safety in each practice and policy. Clinical and fiscal goals are achieved by mentoring the first line management to develop “team-dynamic” functioning clinical staff through directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating. He/she engenders confidence and trust and fosters collaborative/collegial relationships that generate high staff achievement and pride.

Qualifications

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Must be a graduate of a School of Nursing Program. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. Master's Degree in Administration or a related field is preferred. At least five (5) years of progressively more responsible clinical/administrative experience in patient care services/nursing with three (3) years of management experience in Medical Surgical services, preferably in a large academic medical center. Certification in Quality Improvement Techniques is preferred. Ability to solve complex system problems. Experience/successes in process-redesign a plus.
