Overview

About the Role

The primary purpose of the Financial Assistance Advisor position is to ensure that pertinent and accurate insurance information is obtained from the patient and subsequently updated in the hospital’s computer system for billing purposes. Follows up on pre-certifications for In-patient admissions and Observations, calls insurance carriers to give notice of admissions, processes Charity Care, Family Care, Presumptive Eligibility (P.E.) applications and Public Assistance inquiry forms. Provides patients with information pertaining to various NJ State programs such as P.E. Medicaid/ NJ State Medicaid, NJ Family Care, Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Charity Care. Performs all activities in accordance with patients’ rights to health care access and confidentiality in a courteous and professional manner consistent with Five Star Customer Service policies. The position incorporates cross-functioning duties in the Patient Accounts’ Financial Counseling and Charity Care Units.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do  

  • Verify and update patient insurance information for billing purposes.
  • Obtain and follow up on insurance authorizations and admission notifications.
  • Process Charity Care, NJ Family Care, Presumptive Eligibility, and Public Assistance applications.
  • Educate patients on financial assistance programs and healthcare coverage options.
  • Provide financial counseling and support to patients regarding available resources.
  • Maintain confidentiality and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Perform cross-functional responsibilities within the Financial Counseling and Charity Care Units.

 

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible clerical experience required.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a physician’s office, hospital billing office, or insurance company required.
  • Experience must include billing and collections and/or medical insurance-related activities.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a computerized environment required.

Compensationhourly

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is Probationary Rate TC/1925 $29.09– Two (2) Year Rate $30.48. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs.
